Expatriate Bolivian pianist and composer Danilo Rojas is a driving force in the creation of a unique blend of Bolivian music improvisation and jazz, fused with a mix of traditional and current South American rhythms and melodies. Moving to Australia in 2012 Danilo is currently completing a Masters in Music (Jazz and Improvisation) at Melbourne University/VCA.
Awarded for his contribution to the innovation of Bolivian music nationally and internationally in an artistic career spanning 25 years Danilo has received the National Award of Culture (2014) by the Bolivian Ministry of Culture and Tourism and in 2009 recognised by the Honourable Congress of Bolivia for his achievements.
Danilo Rojas is the son of one of the greatest composers of the 20th century of Bolivian Popular Music, the maestro Gilberto Rojas and studied at the ‘Conservatorio Nacional de Música’ in Bolivia and the ‘Conservatoire Populaire de Musique’, School of Jazz in Geneva Switzerland.
He has recorded albums including “Jazz in Bolivia” an interactive CD sponsored by the Arts and Culture Council of Bolivia , DVD/CD “Lunar” (ATB Red Nacional TV) and Reflections with Marcelo Peña. He also released the DVD “Música Popular Boliviana” recorded live and produced by Bolivian National TV in 2014.
Danilo has collaborated, recorded and performed live with musicians from all over the world and his professional career in Bolivia has also seen him with positions as the Director of Piano at the Conservatory of Music, giving masterclasses at the “Instituto Eduardo Laredo” and “Escuela de Bellas Artes”. Danilo also founded and directed various music schools and has extensive experience as a musical producer and educator.
He has performed in concert and in Festivals in: Australia, Bolivia, Germany, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Peru, Chile, Spain and Colombia.
