Monique Julian, Teacher and Performer (BA Honors in Communications Theatre and Media) has over 30 years teaching experience as a private music teacher of clarinet, saxophone and voice having herself studied privately as well as having taken classes in opera at the Canberra School of Music. She has worked with children all around the world from Australia, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Peru and Bolivia in various positions including teaching drama and music at a leading youth theatre in London and Director of Voice at the Pop Music School in La Paz Bolivia.
As a performer she has developed strengths in many styles including jazz, contemporary music, broadway and pop.
Her performing experiences have included Paris Cat Jazz Club Melbourne, Lead Singer of the Dixielanders Band at Thelonious Jazz Club (La Paz Bolivia), Lead Jazz singer at The Naked Turtle Restaurant (London UK) soloist with the Heard Contemporary Choir (London UK) and she has also worked extensively as a private function singer including weddings.
Ten years ago Monique founded the not for profit organisation Creative Corners; The Global Arts Project which sent musicians, artists and creative people or groups to run or assist on arts education projects in South and Central America including orphanages, detention centers and community projects.
Monique’s teaching technique is unique as she focuses on the placement of the voice and gaining strength in vocal muscles most students never knew about. Her students with proper practice advance quickly in their abilities and enjoy their new found vocal freedom! She works well with students of all ages with adult students in all instruments and her combined vocal and keyboard skill lessons are popular with young beginners.
